On June 28, 2005, Mobile Multimedia Technology Alliance launched the " Xingguang Mobile II chip " chip, the homemade multimedia chip for which China possesses proprietary intellectual property right.

The invention of the chip could greatly reduce the manufacturing and service costs of mobile phones, making it possible to have medium and low end mobiles carry recreational functions which used to be offered by high-end mobile only. Additionally, the new chip also lays foundation for the application of 3G business.
