VC0838 integrates MP3 decoder , 64-polyphony Wavetable MIDI synthesizer, 16-bit 48 KHz Delta-Sigma DAC, Speaker Power Amplifier, Image Signal Processing unit, Image Post Processing unit , JPEG codec , on-chip 384KB SRAM into a 8mm x 8mm 128-pin BGA Package .

In the mobile audio application, VC0838 can generate ringtone in various formats, such as MIDI Ringtone (SMF format), MP3 Ringtone (VMD Format), Hybrid Ringtone (VMD format), etc. Besides, more than 4 channels streaming audio make VC0838 better display some advanced functions, such as MP3 mixed with MIDI, 3D sound effect, User-Defined Musical Instrument, User-Defined Sound Effect, Vibrator controlled by Rhythm, RGB color LED controlled by Rhythm and Caller ID, Hands-free Operation, Karaoke, etc.

In the mobile video application, VC0838 enables camera phone to capture and display still image and video clip at real time on mobile phone screen. With direct interface to CMOS/CCD image sensor and LCD display module, VC0838 can provide high-quality, low-latency video stream to most popular LCD panels with desired resolution and color depth. Within its display sub-module, VC0838 provides Graphics RAM which allocated from the on-chip 384KB SRAM for host CPU to write to LCD panel directly. VC0838 supports overlay and alpha-blending functions between video stream and the graphics from host CPU, along with an integrated graphics engine delivering graphics acceleration for clipping, line drawing, BitBLT, etc. VC0838 also provides a direct path from host CPU to LCD panel.
