March 28, 2005, Vimicro's "China Chip Project" was
awarded the first prize of National Science and Technology Advancement
Award. The ceremony was held at the People's Hall of China and
President Hu Jintao granted the award to Dr. John Deng, CEO of
Vimicro.
Sponsored by the State Council, the award represents China's
most authoritative and prestigious honor. The awards are granted
to a number of scientific projects that have significant contribution
to National scientific development and economy growth. Vimicro's
"China Chip Project" and its multimedia chip technologies
have not only bridged China's status in the core chip technology
platform to an international basis, but also created a very important
platform and promotional effects to the growth of the related
industries in both China's and global IC value chains.
"The award shows government's appreciation of Vimicro's
break-through in the IC design field. We believe with our continuous
effort and first class R&D capability, we'll be able to make
greater contribution to China's IC industry development",
said Dr. John Deng.
The revolution of computer drives the digitalization of information,
Internet links up digital information across different computers
and systems, and mobile communication makes it possible to access
digital information anytime, anywhere. The next generation of
digital revolution is expected to promote broad multimedia applications
on the infrastructure that will deeply impact people's daily life
such as entertainment, information service and education. Eventually,
this will lead to the full convergence of Computer, Communication
and Consumer industry ("3C Convergence").
Dedicated to the development of advanced digital multimedia chips,
Vimicro has successfully introduced series of proprietary multimedia
semiconductor products into domestic and international markets,
targeting fast-growing application fields such as computer, broadband,
mobile communication, and consumer electronics. Vimicro's chip
solutions have been adopted by various multi-national companies
such as Samsung, HP, Fujitsu, Logitech, Creative and Lenovo.
