On Dec.23, 2004, Ministry of Information Industry announced winners of the key National IT Industry Technology Innovation Award in 2004. Vimicro's series of multimedia chip products were ranked highest amongst the five winners.

Conducted by MII, the selection of "National IT Industry Technology Innovation" was initiated 4 years ago to promote cutting edge technology innovations, primarily in communication, IC and software sectors. The other winners in 2004 include technology leaders in various sectors of IT industry such as Lenovo, Tsing Hua University, Wuhan Posts and Telecommunications Corporation and Chongqing University.
