Dr. Zhonghan (John) Deng is a technologist and an entrepreneur. He is the co-founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Vimicro Corporation (NASDAQ:VIMC). He is an elected member of the 10th and 11th National People's Congress of China. At 41, He became the youngest member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in December 2009.

Dr. Deng' career started at IBM TJ Watson Research Center at Yorktown Heights in New York after he completed his Ph.D. Degree in EECS at UC Berkeley. He then co-founded his first startup company Pixim, Inc. (Acquired by Sony) in Silicon Valley. In 1999 Dr. Deng returned to China and co-founded Vimicro Corporation, and served as the Chief Director of "China National Starlight Silicon Chipset Project", in which Dr. Deng developed the China's first silicon chipset known as the Starlight Multimedia Series for which he is widely respected as the ¡°Father of Chinese chips¡±. Starlight Series made successful entry into the international markets claiming clients such as Apple, Dell, HP, IBM, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony; and it enabled the proliferation of web cameras for PC/notebook, and cell phone embedded cameras, which paved the way for global development of Internet video communications and social network applications today.

Dr. Deng was elected to the National People¡¯s Congress (NPC) in 2008. He served 5 years, followed by another 5years in the Congress for the second term from March 2013. Over the past years he submitted multiple bills and put his name on some seminal legislation in China.

Dr. Deng received numerous awards for his leadership and entrepreneurship in technological innovation, including both the College of Engineering Outstanding Alumni Innovation Award and the Chancellor Citation from UC Berkeley, as well as the Chinese National First Class Award of Science and Technology which was presented by the President of China.

He has been featured by many international media including, Forbes, Business Week, Wall Street Journal, Chief Executive, etc., and TV networks such as China Central Television£¨CCTV£© as "2005 Man of the Year".

Deng graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, a Master in Economics, and a Master in Physics. He received his Bachelor degree in Earth and Space Sciences from the University of Science and Technology of China
